I have been playing guitar for 30 years and although I have taken private lessons and played in bands, I never felt like a true musician. I was always playing minor pentatonic scales over all chord changes or else just ripping off some other guitarist’s lead phrases.
I immediately connected with Tomo’s approach to learning the guitar and having a musical conversation. I am hoping that these lessons will help get me to the point where I feel like an actual musician instead of a faker or worse a thief.
Don't feel like a faker or a thief. Music is language.
How did you learn to speak your native language?
By listening to the people around you . . . and mimicking the sounds they made.
You learned by 'faking it until you make it' and 'borrowing' from others, until you were able to form your own speech. But it was based on the 'faking' and 'thieving' you did when you were a small human being.
Thanks David - I really appreciate that insight!
Thank you so much for sharing! A lot of teachersm players use visual aspect of playing, That's totally okay in the beginning... then think about horn players, pianist... more foundation is important than quick ways to learn. So happy to hear that! Good job!
