Tomo Fujita Guitar Wisdom

I have been playing guitar for 30 years and although I have taken private lessons and played in bands, I never felt like a true musician. I was always playing minor pentatonic scales over all chord changes or else just ripping off some other guitarist’s lead phrases.
I immediately connected with Tomo’s approach to learning the guitar and having a musical conversation. I am hoping that these lessons will help get me to the point where I feel like an actual musician instead of a faker or worse a thief.

just signed up for the course, anxious for my access to be granted.

I got my Fender Squier as a gift when I was a teenager. In those times I recognized that music was another expression form to me. Turning 18 I faced the challenge to choose a career: music or another area? Engineering was my choice and music became hobby, mainly playing the acoustic guitar.

Nowadays, almost 2 decades after my first steps, the role of music in my life is cystal clear to me. It's not only a expression form, but's rather an essential activity for my well being.

I really identifiy with the approach of Mr. Fujita to music, so it seems will be really fun to go through this journey.

Hi Tomo and All. I've played for 30 odd years, and have taken FAR too long to recognise the villainy of trying to learn everything from tab. It got me so far as an amateur (a lot of enjoyment for one thing) and played in cover bands, but I've always felt like I don't understand the instrument enough. And alas, I should have practiced a lot lot more when I was younger!

I stumbled across TF on youtube and loved his style, hence ending up here. It's kind of wierd and hard to go back to basics and try and build up a better understanding of theory, but hopefully it will be rewarding in the long run.

I've been a fan of Tomo's for many years and decided to come on here to both learn new concepts for myself as well as use the beginning and intermediate lessons (and some of the advanced) for my students! Hi Just joined a few weeks ago. Getting familiar with the site. The approach Mr. Fujita has is pleasant. I enjoy the reassurance that with practice many things will develop naturally. There is no rush sensed. I have no musical background at all with instruments or music theory. What are the best videos to begin with? Tonight i watched the C-Cord lesson. Using the single finger approach is very helpful. Quite fun actually. The "shapes" were a bit fast. The finger positions and movements were hard to make out. Is there a "learning pace" or approach to take. I can practice an hour during most week days and more on the weekends. Thank you for the site and the opportunity to learn.

This is the best thing I’ve ever done. I’ve been playing for over forty years and had become bored with my playing and never took the step to get lessons.

So after playing guitar for several years I have decided to subscribe to Tomo Fujita’s lessons. I have tried all kinds of books and of course some YouTube lessons but never had the opportunity to have a guitar teacher. I joined on October 1, 2021. Right away I started the 30 day challenge of playing the chromatic scale on fourth string (slow, clean, no noise). Started from the very beginning and so far this is one of the best investments I have ever made. Finally, I feel I have a guitar teacher and not any teacher one of the best teachers in the world. Professional player and professional teacher, I am sincerely honored!

Just starting this journey. I been "playing" guitar for many, many years but really consider myself a beginner. I have recently retired and decided it is time to dedicate myself to this fun instrument. I've seen a lot of Tomo's videos on Youtube. I like the idea of 'why' you do something instead of just 'how' you do it. I have spent my entire career with that philosophy. I have only watch .ed the first two very beginning videos(Em and D chords) and can tell I am going to enjoy this journey. Heck already learned the proper way to hold a pick. No it will be a matter of undoing all my bad habits.

Tomo I have to say your wisdom and knowledge of guitar teaching is by far the best I've had the pleasure of finding on the internet. I have played guitar by ear since I was a young kid. Now at age 57 I finally learned the fretboard and now studying theory. I have known all open cord shapes for many years. Watching your beginner videos on open cords and all the extras have taught me so much in just 1 month. I have always like to play rock, know I am edging more to the blues and jazz. Just the sound of those cords put me in a state of mind of studying and practice to be just as smooth and confident as you are. I will continue my journey with you. Teaching others to better their self is very Nobel.

In all seriousness, I really look forward to diving into all the lessons. I decided to just start with the beginners section ( even though I've played for many years) just to see if I could pick up on anything and just go through the whole program. I've tried and used many online courses, as there are is no shortage. However, Tomo's approach and personality is really what I was drawn to. So, I really look forward to the progress and lessons!

I am new here. Started about a week ago. I have taken lessons from many different instructors for years on and off. Looking to give something else a try. I am going to be patient and work through the videos slowly and not move on till I fully understand even if it means wathching the same video over and over. Already in my first week there are ideas and things that I have never heard a teacher say before. I am very excited about progressing and really am liking Tomo's teaching style. Thanks for this great curriculum.

I just joined. I'm a long-time guitar player looking for new inspiration and some continuing instruction to fill in the gaps. I'm an old guy now but if I could live my life over I would've liked to attend Berklee. I find Tomo's style refreshing and he seems to be a great improviser which is what I am working on getting better at. I'm glad to be here and look forward to interacting with you all.

Hi everyone.

I'm a new here. I've been played guitar, not very seriously, for years. Recently I discovered Tomo Fujita channel in YouTube and the book of William Levitt.

Today, I began in the Beginner section, and I'm complete amazed with the quality of the Tomo Fujita method of learning. That's the way, almost, for me. Only with the first lesson the way to hold the pick and strumming change me the relation with the instrument, and the connexion between the strumming and chords in a musical sense is really helpful.
