So funny - I heard about this before I got it and purchased a 3" leather strap. The additional 3" friction does a great job preventing dive, and the leather keeps it comfy.
And leather straps look cool, last and smell good!
Smelling leather reminds me of those heavy saddles for my Dad's horses when I was a kid.

I am right this very moment listening to The Correct Use of Soap by Magazine. The guitarist on this album is John McGeoch:
McGeoch was I believe an innovative and unique guitarist. He was part of Siouxsie and the Banshees line up for a while and I saw him perform with them in Pasadena as a teenager.
He's pretty hip, in my opinion. Sometimes, dare I say it, funky!
If you like the genres he played in and around, you might dig him on the Magazine album that's playing now or on Siouxsie or PiL:
