Thank you Sunil! Great job!
Tomo
Thank you my friend!
🙏🏾
Good morning everyone!
Woke up at 5:40; tea steeping at 6, 6:10 now.
Good morning Lavoy!
This is a genius thread. Everyone has a morning everywhere.
How is your thinking about school going? Did you find someone you like to talk about the details? Whatever you end up deciding, everything will be ok. (I remember reading a study comparing (don’t compare!) happiness of lotto winners and new amputees.
Something like that…first lotto people were ecstatic, and amputees of course were not. Years later, lotto winner usually don’t fare too well, amputees usually happy within the limits they find themselves in…I don’t remember details…Sammi are you into psychology? I feel like you follow it…I read updates from here, found them when we were living in Oakland, California.

Just wanted to add what my thinking was between wake up and tea.
My posts are usually long, babbling I feel always. Lots in my head always. List-ifying thoughts is a powerful tool to linearize thought for me.
I don’t use an alarm unless I need to now.
I do have one on my phone. It goes off at 4:50pm and says “joy!” Then I mostly ignore it but it makes an impact, I feel.
So wake up, think if I am awake, ah I pick up phone to check time, then scan emails, (avoiding news this week), get up, go downstairs, open window blinds, turn on light in practice room.
Dark and raining (6:25 now sky is noticeably blue overcast) like light rain. There is a drip sound near my window, I think it’s close to 50bpm now. Before it was like: dat, dat…dat, dat, dat,…dat, dat…cool beat.
Then before making tea, I think of a metronome at 50bpm and I walk slowly, just not expecting to think. Whatever comes up is good! I listed to a metronome for about a week or two, I just wound it up and let it run down, now I have a metronome in my heart. Funny but true. I think it helps me focus.
While I am stepping/walking I am thinking about radically simplifying my practice.
I have Kyoto on the list. This is a super goal. I don’t have to complete it, just actively reach for it, with joy, calm.
So daily practice is everything supporting that goal. Another top goal which has a hard time limit is mid-Jan guitar jam at Meenar in Dublin, California. I’m going to go up there and jam, and just love it. Like snowboarding!
So Kyoto is supporting that goal. Today, yesterday also left hand sore at the wrist below pinky. First guitar damaged his hands a few months before masters recital. Had to take 5 months off, that’s always in the back of my head. Not going to worry about it. Just do the list.
I like the goal of picking up guitar three times a day, 30 min each time, and work on one thing on the list.
So today is just easy day, enjoying practice, enjoying this day, I am so lucky to be alive and typing this.
I have to post some progress on Kyoto by two weeks from now so I will figure out try to figure out how to approach Kyoto…
(now I want to go to Japan…I’ve always wanted to hike there along the mountains and rest anywhere at the temples where ever. It seems safer there…nice people, and no guns it seems, maybe things will change with the new pm…she plays drums though, that’s cool)
Ok, 7am now! I have checked the first thing off my list yea!! Party, with guitar with joy, with calm!! That was my goal to think about how to reorganize my practice and current goals.
I have a good start now!!
Aloha everyone!!
7:05am now, tea done, sky is a beautiful gray-blue. I am super happy, for no reason haha, I am calm, looking forward to this day, so lucky so lucky. Thank you for taking time to read this, I hope it helps you.
Meant:
like the goal of picking up guitar three times a day, 30 min each time, and work on 3 things on the list, 10 minutes at a time. Whoa 10 min for chromatic scale is like this past November challenge…deep practice
Thank you Sunil for sharing! If you can practice 30 minutes / 3 times! That's like "Heaven" You can do so much. Please be careful about numbers.... some people think about "How long" too much. So when you have very busy day... be flexible. Even 3 minutes is so good! Don't decide too stiff. Be flexible and this way you can do something everyday without expectation.
For Kyoto.... You can do many things.
1) Just lisitening KYOTO over and over while you are sitting down and do nothing but listening.
2) Learn parts. Could be just chords. F-9, G7(b13) C-7 C-7... groove? or just triads... Fm G Cm Cm etc.
3) Intro fill.... or melody.... Maybe chords first? I have these lessons here.
Always keep it simple. Yes. 3 items / 10 minutes each or even 3-5 minutes each when you are busy.
Tomo
Thank you Tomo! This is very helpful, I understand now, this is the same as when you said no limits for me.
Oh wow, yes that is a super approachable starting point to just listen to Kyoto! Things wind up in my head and I freak myself out, still. That’s ok. That is me. Probably self evident to most (not me hahah) this is what Mr. Kim Sun Ho mentioned! Yes, true!
Abstraction is my super power.
But then everything becomes guitar and no one understands what I’m saying so then it becomes about deciding cost of backing up and explaining all the connections (usually loose and not-logical…but this is the creative process I think).
This how focus on fundamentals for guitar is helping me.
This is great Tomo! This is a flexible structure that permeates any limits anyone may have. Ah, Guitar Wisdom!
So glad to hear that Sunil! I am very happy to be helpful! You’re very welcome!
Good job! Focusing one topic at a time is so good! Yes. Be flexible and enjoy it!
I love Guitar Wisdom forum so much!
Tomo
Good morning friends!
Yesterday I tried a chromatic scale study for 10 min. Then I took a nap. Then I realized why my triads sounded odd. Boom, breakthrough.
Easy peasy.
Aloha friends!
Hey, where are all the good mornings?
Aaalooooh?
Hmm…
Kurt, …am I…have I become…the Sasquatch?
Well, I do love children…they’re us….they are messengers into the future.
I love to watch them play…..
And they are tasty!?
No no no no!
Do not eat the children!
Kurt, there were two questions.
You said you like the last version.
But, I think the first version of “Leaves of Grass” is Whitman’s favorite, not that one, before that one.
What the heck in the house.
It’s 6:25am…the sun approaches…the children will wake soon…I must prepare for the path today,
I love the path.
It’s my path.
Actually not 10 minutes of chromatic scales. Really like…actually when I stopped checking the time, I realized I slip out of time.
Good Job Sunil! Chromatic Scale 10 min!
Tomo
Thank you Tomo!
I accept this “Good Job Sunil!”
Thank you my friend!
I still have to reply about
Pentatonic Productions video you sent.
I wrote pages about it last night…but don’t want to send you pages anymore haha. I will boil it down by tonight.
All good, all beautiful. I think I…just starting to realize…
Hope your parents are happy and fine!
I think I finally understand intonation.
Standing with the guitar, tune, check octave harmonic, tune. Then press with MY touch, at octave. Adjust saddle. Repeat until tuned.
That’s why my triads were inconsistent.
I have to have the guitar tuned, and intonated, AND understand MY touch.
Easy peasy. Just tuned bottom E! Hahaha…took sometime, five more strings to go!
Profoundly beautiful day today!
Gray sky and chilli here hahaha!
Sorry not-chilli, meant Shilpa’s garbanzo bean curry…with a tortilla.
Maaan, that’s some good stuff.
Thank you for your reply! Yes! Intonation is super important! Please enjoy those triads! My parents are doing well! They are so happy! I am very happy and I am so grateful!
Tomo

Good morning my friend!
Thank you Scott! Lovely place indeed! What a sweet group of people! Great community! I am so grateful!
Tomo
Thank you Scott. You too have a good one!
I hope everyone had a great day.
I know I did.
I went to the gym with my wife first thing in the morning.
I got to practice guitar for over an hour.
Did some studying for my job.
And now I’m going to bed.
I hope everyone had a great day and that tomorrow brings more of the same.
Goodnight!
That is an awesome day Rich!
I hope so too!
Thank you Rich! Have a great day! I am at Berklee now. I teach from 9am but I am here since 6:30am!
Good job! Amaizng!
Tomo
Great day Rich!
Hey Lavoy where are you man?
Don’t let me take this thread from ya maaaan.
Check in dude!
Every morning!
No pressure, you don’t have to do a damn thing man. Does this “thread” even exist in the real world?
Good morning my friends!
I think our refrigerator is sick, so had black tea with no milk --that's a strong waker-upper!
Alright, let's do this.
Back to 0, ...not-0, 1. :)
Aloha!
Good morning, Sunil.
So sorry your fridge is being weird.
The last time mine acted up (freezing things in veggie drawers, but warm in other areas of fridge, water leaking on the floor in front).
The problem was the little fan in the refrigerator section. That fan / fan motor wasn't blowing and had to be replaced. I think it is a common problem. The GE repair guy had one on his truck. Hope you get it sorted out without too much pain or $$.
So great that you have such a positive attitude.
We're rooting for you!
Kurt
Hey Kurt, good morning man!
Hows it in Seattle now?
Beautiful crisp baby blue skies this morning in Pleasanton.
Yikes about your fridge!
Yeah, we both thought Kimaya was messing with the thermostat but she told us the truth and we did not initially believe her. Gah!
Freezer above is super freezing stuff solid, and fridge below is luke-cold, borderline room temps lol.
Not worrying about it is one of the benefits of renting haha, I guess.
Shilpa let'em know, they'll probably switch it out.
Thank you my friend, I do feel this!
Fo' real!
The rooting is distributed! :)
Focusing on chromatic scales exercises this morning, so much details I missed before in FT01, FT02, FT03.
I have to still work out details of my daily foundation work, its getting there.
I still feel on-track I think, not freaking out hahaha, hands feel great (yea!), guitar is so much easier to tune even on cold mornings when everything is intonated correctly I think, amazing. Excited about triads, listening to Kyoto...oh god, i forgot off the top of my head the rest of my list to prep for that triple-diamond snowboard run mid-Jan, but i still feel good about it.
Lots of things in motion now, feels great!'
Yay Sunil! The benefits of renting.
Great attitude!
Shilpa sounds like an angel.
Good job trying to stay on track and not freakin' out.
I love that triad lesson Tomo just put up on the Triad review and challenge thread.
That's something I need to do every day.
Have a nice weekend!
Kurt
Good luck with the fridge Sunil.
It’s been a good morning here woke up early listened to Albert king and practiced for rehearsal tonight and saw family for brunch. Looking forward to opportunity playing out of the house and grateful to find friends to play music with.
“It’s a long road to see Kurt in Seattle from Boston but the road does take you there. Just like the R37 road leads you to just funky eventually.” -George Mattingly
Hey Jeff! Thanks man! Heading out to "the breakfast club" in livermore heard its good, kids almost ready haha. Maintenance friend is here, we might have crowded the freezer too much, he's going to remove everything then clean it out and put it back, see what happens.
That sounds like an amazing morning my friend, balanced! Love A.King of course :)
That is awesome man have a great rehearsal Loving the reminder from the chat and your chat thread, very helpful!
Sounds like you are off to a great start Jeff!
You too Sunil!
George is always right. :-)
It is a straight shot from Boston to Seattle!
Kurt
Interstate 90 (I‑90) runs all the way from Seattle, Washington, to Boston, Massachusetts. It is the longest Interstate Highway in the United States, stretching over 3,000 miles.
Thanks Kurt!
I keep thinking of the RAAM when you're all discussing great paths across "our" local piece of North America.
I would love to do that someday on a recumbent. :)
Good morning friends!
Great day yesterday;
Folding in JS01 today.
Feeling good!
Loose leaf organic black tea leaves, with milk.
Black sky, infinite potential...but still gotta pay the bills lolol

BUILDING ABSTRACTIONS
WITH PROCEDURES
The acts of the mind, wherein it exerts its power over simple ideas, are chiefly these three: 1. Combining several simple ideas into one compound one, and thus all complex ideas are made. 2. The second is bringing two ideas, whether simple or complex, together, and setting them by one another so as to take a view of them at once, without uniting them into one, by which it gets all its ideas of relations. 3. The third is separating them from all other ideas that accompany them in their real existence: this is called abstraction, and thus all its general ideas are made.

Thank you Sunil for sharing your great day! Good job on working on the JS01.
