Oh - I’m not discouraged. I have a long road ahead. I have to “unlearn” a lot. I’ve fiddled around with the guitar for since HS - 45 plus years ago, but I never learned. That’s what makes GW so great. Right now, I don’t see myself playing with anyone, I just have this fascination with unlocking this world of music that basically has been hidden right in front of me for a very long time. I’m starting from complete scratch with GW. I can copy or “figure out” songs by trial and error, but I don’t have interest in that. I’d rather read and count Sea to Sea, do my chromatic scales and my one finger c scales. “Understand, not memorize” as Tomo says! I appreciate your feedback though. It great to be able to bounce my ideas Tomo and the GW brethren.

Thank you John for sharing. We all beginners before so we all same level to start. Don't worry! No need to rush at all. Learning guitar is like a little bit unlearn and fix problems. That's why YouTube videos are not really helping to learn how to play guitar. I needed to make a lot of mistakes so that I could notice something and be careful about it. This way we can learn how to recover from any problems/mistakes.
Please enjoy your guitar journey!
Tomo
I feel you, John! I'm not as senior but the backdrop is almost the same. I was exposed to the instrument during high school years but unfortunately never really learned and played it. Only until in recent years, I have sit with myself and realized that it's something that I truly love.
I have great aspirations (probably disproportionate to my age, time and condition (allergies, severe)), but I still wanted to play the guitar.
I'm very happy to hear that you've found your enjoyable moments. Similarly, I find chromatic scale fun to do and I can (over-)do usually haha. Let's enjoy the journey together!
