Hey,
So in lesson 4 when discussing learning the strings, Tomo uses the B string and C major scale as to exemplify the usage of solfege. I'm sure the explanation made sense to many but i am a bit lost.
Is the type of solfege that he discusses 'fixed' solfege or 'movable' solfege.
Because I'm guessing this would mean on the A string for example if it was fixed, that you would play the natural notes (C major - Fixed Solfege) as; A(La) B(Ti/Si?) C(Do) D(Re) E(Mi) F(Fa) G(Sol)
And if it were movable, it would be, again on the A string; A(Do) B(Re) C#(Mi) D(Fa) E(So) F#(La) G#(Ti)
And if it was intentionally not clarified which of these to use, which would you suggest? Because I guess it's pretty important to understand which of these is to be used as it is pretty heavily used in the triad work too.
Hope you can make sense of this for me, thanks a heap!
Here is Tomo's reply:
"No problem. In this case, the first part is just Do Re Mi in the Key of C. But if I sing Do Re Mi in the Key of A, for instance (singing A B C# D and so on), then it is a movable Do Re Mi.
"Yes. Sing the C scale on the 5th String, starting with A: La, Ti, Do, Re … simple, fixed Do Re Mi. Please stay focused on one very simple concept at a time, before you go to the next level. So, here just stick to the key of C and keep it simple for a few weeks or more. Then you can work on movable Do Re Mi."
Thanks for asking this question. I was confused as well.
