Sorry I'm quite lost in the Triads. I've learned Root Inversion, 1st and 2nd inversion of C Major. But when I arrived at the Twinkle Twinkle Videos, Tomo Sensei is saying something about 1-4-5, which I clearly dont understad. Is there also a roadmap to follow in learning Triads? Thank you!
Here is Tomo's reply:
"Don't worry! This happens a lot! I think, maybe, you think you understand C triads, but you may need to pay much more attention to each detail. When you are learning C triads, you should not be memorizing shapes. You want to understand each degree in a triad. So, we have:
Root Position as R 3 5
1st Inversion as 3 5 R
2nd Inversion as 5 R 3
"Make sure you can hear those sounds (in your mind) before you play them. You may need to watch the same video several more times and study triads slowly and carefully. When playing triads, if anything does not feel smooth, then don’t keep doing that! You may need to go back a few steps, so that you can move forward strongly, with confidence.
"When we talk about I IV V, we are talking about chord numbers. Here are the notes of the E Major scale: (1)E (2)F# (3)G# (4)A (5)B (6)C# (7)D#. So, in this case:
E = 1, E chord = I
A = 4, A chord = IV
B = 5, B chord = V
"Good job! Keep studying the material as slowly as possible!"
Read this before starting my first triad lesson. Going to let y'all know how it goes!
