I was having the same problem, I was super frustrated and realize that i was sweeping the pick (not strumming) it helped me

Hope I can help, (Do-Mi-So) R-3-5 or (Do-Mi-Ti) R-3-7 etc. match the chord. The R will be the first in line, this same R will apply when looking at scales. For example, here is the key of C with no sharps/flats.

R-3-7 = C, E, B (that is the make up of your chord/triad)
R-3-5 = C, E, G

Try to 'hear' Do-Mi-SO R-3-5 or Do-Mi-Ti R-3-7 etc. Hopefully the chart above helps.

I was lost, but now seems obvious

No problem. Your not alone, you can hear R35 or Do Mi So a 1,000 times but if you don't see how they are stacked, its one big misery. I didn't know this info 2-months ago and had to google it myself. Since then, I went through the Fake Dr. Levin theory class (Burklee guy) and it connected a lot of my missing dots and made Tomo's lessons a lot more accessible for me. Even though Tomo is demonstrating 3-note chord, the lesson is not about triad per se.

The lesson is about learning the dominant chord using the R 3 7 voicing and it's application to blues chord progression. In it, it includes demonstration of L hand muting, and playing in time using metronome. It's more about technique and application than theory which I think, is good to incorporate in your practice regimen.

The description also said "Learn R 3 7 Chords: Muting Technique, Playing A Blues, Playing Bb Blues, Practicing with a Metronome."

Hi Mhel. I'm not sure you've told me anything new. Would you consider posting the 12 variations of R 3 7 tablature in these comments or linking to a website?

My previous answer was directed to your last sentence about "...whether the video is primarily a blues strumming video or a triads video."

Regarding the R 3 b7 forms or shapes, rather than rely on tabs, Tomo really wants us to know and hear the intervals and the degree of the major (Theory 001) and minor scales (Theory 006) (then later, other scales). If you watch the triad lesson again, take time to identify what note is the R, what note is the 3 and what note is the 5. In key of C, the R is C, 3 is E, 5 is G. Knowing those notes, you should be able to find them on the entire neck of the guitar even without tabs. Stacking those triad notes in different order gives you the inversions. Same goes with R 3 b7 formula. In key of C, the b7 is Bb. Finding them on your own will help you remember the notes on every fret and strings of the guitar and knowing the intervals will help you understand expanded chords like Em9, Em7b5, Ab7b13, etc. and finally, will help you with soloing over chord changes.
