Hi Tomo,
Just subscribed to your lessons. I just watched TF Lesson 4.
I see that at one point one point when you were looking at the D chord you called the F# a Fa.
Should I:
- just ignore the sharps and flats right now when learning the notes using solfege?
(which makes the most sense to me as it is early days in the lessons...)
or
- Should I just call the sharps and Flats Do Re Mi Fa So La Ti Do
or
- Use classic solfege?
Enjoying your lessons so far - feels like you are my personal guitar teacher? ;-)
Thanks
Morgan
Thanks for your enthusiastic participation in Tomo Fujita Guitar Wisdom! Maybe I can help.
In Lesson 4, F# is "Mi" in the D Major triad, second inversion: So Do Mi. To learn more about sharps, flats and Solfege in general, please watch the "Music Theory I" videos. I think these videos will answer the questions in your post.
Here is Tomo's reply:
"Thanks so much for doing my Guitar Wisdom! It is always better to stay simple and keep your thinking simple. If there are more choices, first stay with less information, fewer ideas. In this case, sing Do Re Mi Fa So La Ti Do.
"If the C triad = C E G = Do Mi So, then the D triad = D F# A = Do Mi So. The important part of this lesson is just understanding the intervals: Root, Major 3rd, 5th."
