I'm confused about what exactly I'm supposed to practice. Is it C major on all strings starting from all the notes in the scale playing and saying one note at a time and then singing with solfege? Or is it just playing and saying the notes on each string in C?
Just watched lesson 4 last night, I believe it's learning the notes on the fretboard. Using the C major scale - find and learn the notes on each string.
If you start from each string, the scale will start somewhere in between. It helps to write the C major scale pattern down, C D E F G A B C - they are 2 frets between each note except between E F, and B C.
The solfege helps, at least for me in ear training. C Do, D Re.. I could hear the color tones singing solfege and playing the corresponding notes.
So back to your questions, break it down to learning notes on the B string first. Move on to the next string, etc.. say the note, sing the solfege. Get them under your fingers, so much so that if someone says - where's C on the G string? And your finger goes straight to the 5th fret. Something like that 😉
My humble opinions, cheers~
Thanks Sebastian. Is that what's called fixed Do?
Here is Tomo's reply to Conor:
"Thanks for subscribing to my Guitar Wisdom. Please watch the video a few times, and you will understand it. Learn all the notes on the fretboard very slowly, and sing Do Re Mi. If you need personal attention, please feel free to contact me about my Skype lessons."
