I think Tomos learning approach isnt to learn by tabs because you will "copy" it and when you play by tabs you usually cant show your own feeling. He really wants to train your ear.
And most scales you can find yourself, you just need to know the steps between the notes in a scale
like major scale it is: C - D- E~F- G - A - B ~ C
(-) is wholestep
(~) is halfstep
hope this helped you, at first its frustrating to learn without visual material but trust me you will get better with tomos method!
