I don’t understand why to use R 3 b7 instead of the barre with R 3 5 b7? Is it for the guide tones of the third and seventh interval sound? Because for muting with left hand I find it possible the traditional way. Is this an important technique for future? I have watched video several times now, so I don’t know if I have missed something?
I ask because my pinky will not cooperate and I sound like crap playing it this way :D I do know that all good things come with practice and time, I only ask to know why it’s worth it.
Thank you.
Thanks
Here is Tomo's reply:
"Good question! For playing R&B, Rock and Pop: yes, a standard 4-note 7th chord is good. I use those. This lesson is here for specific reasons: 1) R 3 7 is simple, so it’s great to use for comping (rhythm guitar). With R 3 7 chords, your improvisation has more freedom, more range! 2) Muting R 3 7 is not easy, so working on this will make your skills better! If you can't do this very well, then you can practice super slowly, and you can try some finger exercises. Please watch each video 5-6 times or more … then you will notice something!"
Thanks. I managed it today that it sounded clear and good. I realised my problem was that the bottom two strings were ringing out, which is why it sounded so bad. Slow practice made it better.
