Hi everyone!!
I want to say thanks to everyone contributing to this forum! It's great!!
I just started this week and I wanted to ask if someone has a routine recommendation. I've read some topics about it but they seemed a little bit more oriented for those who are at an intermediate-advanced level.
I loved Tomo's philosophy of only doing three things, so what I'm doing at the moment is the following:
- Finger exercise 15 minutes. I would really like to improve my speed so if anyone can recommend me exercises and how to advance with them I'll be incredibly grateful!
- Triads (just started): I'm doing R IV V (from 10 to 20 minutes each). For example C triads, F triads, G triads -- per week. So for example next week I will do A, D and E and so on. I think that maybe the last two days of the week I will try to improvise with them.
- For this week I will do Twinkle Twinkle Little Star + triads variations and maybe try to improvise with them while I listen to Tomo. I would like to play a different song every week and apply what Tomo teaches, but I still have a lot of content to watch so I don't know what I will be doing next week at the moment. But if anyone has a recommendation of which song should I play next that would be helpful!
Also, for those who maybe want also to play something that you like, for example, a song from your favorite band or whatever you feel like playing, I would recommend playing as slow and delicate as you can and each day trying to be a little closer to the real song's tempo. Then maybe after a week try playing alongside the band.
I hope that anyone who is struggling with how to start from the ground finds this useful.
Please if you have any recommendations let me know!!
Thanks everyone and thank you Tomo!!
Here is Tomo's comment:
"Thanks so much for subscribing to my Guitar Wisdom. Remember what I say on my wisdom picks: 'Don’t worry! Don’t compare! Don’t expect too fast! Be kind to yourself!'
"Good job! I will make more videos that include 'practice routine' advice for all Guitar Wisdom subscribers. Anyway, your routine should be flexible, not stressful. Always review important foundation material.
"Triads are great, but there's no need to do them everyday, once you know them well. You can practice simple chromatic and R 3 7 swing grooves (try a few different choices). I still do these two things, pretty much every single day -- especially R 3 7 swing grooves! They are the foundation of my funk and muting skills."
