So I'm in lesson 10, Twinkle Twinkle. I already learned the song and I'm able to do the fills and I understand where the notes of the fills come from. I also know where the root of all the inversions are and where the 5th and the 3r are. I do0n't have the D#, Bb, Ab, A triads memorized, but I can play any triad because I know the notes in the fretboard. Should I memorize the triads or can I move on? I hace the C triad completely memorized.
Do I have to practise more or can I move on.Triads
You can probably try playing along a random backing track but instead of playing scales, come up with your own melodic arrangements of just the minor and major triads of the chords in the progression to work on your triad proficiency.
Here is Tomo's comment:
"Basically, you can learn and practice as much as you wish. The key is to prepare, and to learn the details at a slow pace. Learn those triads as well as you can, so that you can understand those fills as intervals in each chord."
hey felipe, agreed with all the above. if you think you've got it, you can move on.
my question would be, where are you trying to get to as a guitarist?
if, for example, you want to be a studio musician, then it's worth taking the time to learn the details and get it all down.
but if you just want to make songs, or solo, then maybe don't put all your energy there and practice it little by little over time instead.
if your goal is to jam with other guitarists, then more time on that will help you get comfortable playing in all different keys.
once you have one key down, it's just about knowing where the other keys are on the fretboard.
you know what i mean? it's not so much about "getting it down," but where does it apply in my journey?
foundations are helpful to practice, but staying there forever isn't where great music is made.
I agree with you, thankyou. I stayed in this part until I was able to play in any key. I'm planning to go back to the start to do all the basics again in a year or so.
Edit: I still practice triads daily, but I don't invest as much time as I do in the new things I'm learning.
