Hi Tomo,
At 11:48 on Lesson 52 can you explain what the 6,9 chord you are talking about? I checked the degrees I think you are playing, but I can't seem to figure it out.
Thanks
I also watched the lesson a few times and then some in the Youtube. In one of youtube videos where he was playing with Yoshiaki, the transition was happening over Fm7 backing then to Bb13 when he played the descending diminished chord. The changes could've been Fm9 - F7sus4 - Fm11 but in the lesson he said Fm9 - Fm11 - 6/9. The only 6/9 I could figure in the area (15 and 16 frets) were Db6add9 and Ab6add9. I'm also curious what 6/9 chord it is and why he chose it over an Fm7 chord.
Here is Tomo's comment:
"Normally, a 6(9) chord has the following notes: Root, M3, 6, 9 and 5th (from 5th string root) OR
Root, 6, 9, 5th from 6th string root. If you don’t get it, don’t worry! There are two possibilities:
"1) You can go back to earlier lessons to review more foundation/core music; or
"2) I can re-visit some earlier lessons and make new versions of videos to explain material more slowly and in more detail."
I watched the lesson again and seemed to make more sense of Tomo saying "minor 11" referring to an Fm11.
The chord in question is spelled F C Eb Bb which is R 5 b7 and 11. I make sense of this thinking that it is a third-less 11 chord that sounds like a minor chord in the context of the previous Fm9 chord that hits the minor 3rd (i.e., the Ab).
I think the 6/9 comment refers to the G7(b9) chord. In the video it is a rootless G7(b9) chord. He does another blues video (I think it was C blues) doing that move on the second time through, but in that case he played the root on the 6th string.
