hey fellow guitarists, first time starting a thread. my name is tim! nice to e-meet you.
i've been playing as a hobby when i was young, but stopped when i went to college and then 2 years ago, decided to take guitar seriously. i collected a bunch of practice routines over the last 2 years, and formed my own.
i was wondering if you had a practice routine set up as well?
if so, what's your practice routine?
for me, i practice every morning and then practice solos when i record music. my routine is currently:
- finger warm ups taken from tomo, tom morello's masterclass, and justinguitar + volume control of my picking
- chromatic bending practice from tomo's guitar wisdom (including bending strings while playing the c scale)
- naming triads and going around the circle of fifths
- learn one song by ear. sometimes it's just figuring out the key, playing the chords, or learning to play the melody on my guitar
if i'm feeling like pushing myself, i'll add these:
- include triads when i play solos
- practice a cover song i made
- do arpeggios around the circle of fifths (taken from cory wong)
- finding triads using R-3-5, 3-5-R, and 5-R-3 across the neck
i aim for practicing every day at least 10 minutes minimum, but allow myself to go longer if i feel like it.
my goal is to learn my guitar and get better at tone recognition so that i can play freely around the fretboard, and develop my "voice" on the guitar since i enjoy making songs with the guitar as the lead.
when i feel like i've got something, i replace it with something else and then come back to it if i don't feel like i've grasped it.
anyway, let me know what your routine is like. maybe we can exchange ideas.
can't wait to hear from you.
