Hello Tomo, I was wondering if you could teach us a little more on how to get your phrasing to be more melodic. Sometimes, if I am trying to improvise over chord changes using the Minor/Major Pentatonic Scales, the melody sounds very 'boxed' and without much feel. What do you think is the best way to tackle this problem?
Here is Tomo's reply:
"Thanks so much for subscribing to my Guitar Wisdom. Listen to more vocal lines, and find good tunes that have great phrasing. Maybe you could start with these:
1) Freddie King 'Hideaway'
2) Albert Collins 'Frosty'
3) Gatemouth Brown 'Okie Dokie Stromp'
4) Fleetwood Mac (Peter Green) 'Stop Messing Around'
5) Tomo Fujita 'Kyoto' (from the 'Pure' CD)"
Thank you for the reply. I will surely listen to all these tunes. The part where I am stuck and want to improve on is not exactly my phrasing, but how to play the melodies i hear in my head during improvisation on the guitar. A lot of times I sing out the improvisation if I can't play it. I know practice will make it better but any tips on how to practice for this sort of thing?
Tomo, after learning these solos below, or any other guitar solos for that matter, how does this relate to creating my own solos? Are there steps I need to take or consider?
