Hi Tomo,

Thank you very much for your great videos; i feel I have improved quite drastically in my guitar knowledge.

I am unfortunately a bit stuck on your Diatonic 4 note 7th chord lesson (Theory 13). I do not know exactly what other lesson ideas you are drawing from to derive the 7th chords - they seem to be in a different position than the diatonic triads- so i am having trouble understanding how to stack the notes.

Any tips appreciated.

I can help a little, R-7-3-5 .. this is a major chord . Take the G triad for example and put together the R-7-3-5 . I would start with the root on 6 string , then 5 , then fourth . I hope this helps .

Do not try to make your own chords. Triads are 3 notes. A 7th chord is 4 notes. Don’t think too much about shapes or patterns. Please watch this video at least 3 - 5 times, and listen to the intervals. Learn the intervals and the specific voicings in the lesson. Don't worry!"

Hi Tomo, this was a great lesson. I especially like playing the IV iii ii I chord progression from the Steely Dan song (FMaj7 | E-7 | D-7 | CMaj7) but I would like to know what scale(s) or mode(s) you are using to solo over it?! It sounds great but you didn’t mention what you are playing for the improvised solo. Maybe that is a future lesson but I am curious.

Hey guys I would like to know this too. How to achieve something similar to the great sounding improvised solo? Is this going to be covered in future lessons?

I mean should i be able to work out how to play those solos from watching up to this video a couple of times?

Does Tomo think mixing triads to get 7ths (and other chords) is a valuable way to look at things, or is it just distracting? In other words:

Cmaj7 = Cmajor + Eminor
Dmi7 = Dmin + Fmaj
Emi7 = Emin + Gmaj
Fmaj7 = Fmaj + Amin
G7 = Gmaj + Bdim
Amin7 = Cmin + Emaj
Bmi7(b5) = Bdim + Dmin
