Is (Root-Major3rd-5th) the same as (do-mi-sol)?
Are those both the same as C-E-G?
That's it. That is the whole question haha. Thank you in advance!

Root - 3rd - 5th
is indeed the same as
Do - Mi - So.
This is root position and can also be used over minor triads. So don’t get confused and think it is only “Root - Major 3rd - perfect 5th”
Mi - So - Do = 3rd - 5th - Root
(1st inversion)
So - Do - Mi = 5th - Root - 3rd
(2nd inversion)
Thanks this is very helpful!
Kellen,
The "Do Mi So" is the 1st, 3rd and 5th degree of the scale in question:
C D E F G A B C
R 2 3 4 5 6 7 8(Root up one octave)
Do Re Mi Fa So La Ti Do
When I was starting to work on this, I wrote down on a piece of paper those things and the whole/half steps between each note as a reminder. That way, whether I am thinking in my head of the numbers, notes or degree I can see all of them together. I'm still a beginner myself but trying to explain the concepts helps us learn them!
Hello Drew,
The way you explained this is awesome. Keep it up and much thanks. I hope a bunch of good things happen to you. Maybe an old friend will call you up soon :)
Also if you haven't already it might be helpful to write it out like this to remember whole/half steps on the major scale(It's what Tomo Does):
C D EF G A BC
R 2 34 5 6 78 (Root up one octave)
Do Re MiFa So La TiDo
I've added your note to my notebook. Thanks again Friend!
I appreciate the note, I like to use the numbers of steps and then add the interval length(2.5 steps for a perfect 4th) since I prefer a bit more mathematical view of it for my own learning.
Oooo that makes sense. Your brain works in a cool way!
