Would it be possible to have a video here that could be used for a guided listening exercise or analysis of well-known songs? I know with YouTube it will not be possible with copyright issues and I imagine it will be the same through this platform but I just thought I would ask. I know this is common in music education and is typically not possible for online music education. The three level videos on YouTube are a similar format of separating the components to a song, will there be a similar series of more in-depth lessons like that at any point for students here?
Thank you!
Hello, Drew.
Listening can be challenging as our attention is often divided among many things in our lives.
Advice from my father when I was about ten years old was:
"The more complicated the music, the more difficult it can be to appreciate it. If you find yourself listening to something that is complicated and difficult, pick just one of the instruments and listen only to that instrument for the entire song. Then, go back and choose a single different instrument to do the same thing with."
I was listening to a Miles Davis recording "Bitch's Brew".
I have applied that advice to all forms of music throughout my entire life. It really helps to understand what the musicians are saying and also to appreciate their skills.
I hope this helps.
