I'm just wondering, but is the best way to approach this sites learning by going through the lessons titles "1-x, 20-x" etc the way you should approach learning here at the beginning? It seems like that is the order it was intended to be. Just wondering cause you have the lessons in ordered playlists, but then there's playlists like the beginner one. Thanks in advance :D
My two cents:
If you’re a total beginner, do the beginner playlist. Also, my sense is that regardless of your current level, you need to go thru thoroughly Foundation and Technique I and II as well as Music Theory I playlists. You need to know this stuff thoroughly. Even if the content is familiar, Tomo’s approach is unique, so you need to spend time on it.
After you have gone thru, understood practiced those playlists, you’d then be better placed to bounce around topics that interest you.
I have played for many years but spent a few days going through Beginning Series anyway. Each lesson is only a few minutes and I found some blind spots to work through. I proceeded to Music Theory, where I am spending my practice now. Next I will go through Technique 1 & 2, and immerse myself in Blues Lessons some time in the summer.
I've played for quite a few years now but am only now taking it very seriously (proper ear/theory training and everyday practice of the core stuff). I just didn't know if it would matter to go through the lessons 1-xx rather than the different playlists :)
Pretty much the same for me. I went with the organized topic folders because it made more sense. The numbered lists make it easy to find individual lessons when I need to go back and find one.
We recommend that you use the numbered playlists only when searching for a specific lesson number (for review, or because it is referenced in a subsequent lesson that is difficult for you). The categorized playlists will serve you much better. If you start with the Beginner Series and move ahead to the Sight-Reading Series, you will eventually develop the most solid foundation possible for guitar playing. Or, you could try this path: begin with Theory videos (on Major scales), then learn the notes on the fretboard ,and reinforce that learning with the triads lessons, Next, you could alternate between more Theory videos and the foundation & Technique lessons on Blues.
You know your own strengths and weaknesses better than anyone else. You are free to choose your own path, with those strengths and weaknesses in mind. Just remember what Tomo would say: "Don't worry!" Most importantly, as Bill Leavitt used to say: "Have fun!"
