Hey guys,
I've been an intermediate guitar player for years, finally decided to take this beatiful piece of art more seriously. I used to watch Tomo's videos on Youtube every now and then and always be sort of "scared" of triads whenever he started talking about them. Well, maybe scared is not the word, its more like I rejected them because I thought they were going to be a pain to learn and I used to have quite a lazy mindset.
But man was I wrong, after watching literally just TWO of Tomo's videos on the topic in the first Technique and Foundation module I soon realized how easy it was to figure out the rest of them just by knowing the C Major triads and their inversions. Today I was randomly playing and practicing as I checked the notes I had taken after the lesson and it just suddenly hit me how they all fit together and why they have the shapes that they have. After that, playing minor, diminished and augmented is no big deal since as Tomo well explains you only have to move the 3rd and 5ths half step up/down depending on which case it is.
So, bottom line is... Don't be afraid of triads! If you are a new player and feel like you get discouraged by this term, do not panic! Just do as Tomo says, pay attention to the videos, and if you still struggle, get a pen and a paper and write them down, that can help you visualize them the same way it helped me. But trust me, writing it in a tiny notebook like he says HELPS A LOT. I actually went to buy one before starting guitar wisdom and I don't regret it. Now I'm always carrying it in my pocket.
Anyways, can't wait to start using triads for improvisation. Thank you Tomo-sensei for this amazing content! And keep up the good work everyone!
