Hope you are all doing well out there.
So I need help. Been playing for about a year - just chord stuff. Until a few months ago, which is when I really wanted to start to learn improvisation. Signed up to guitar wisdom a month back, and have been enjoying Tomo's insight and approach on things.
But, I haven't seen him sort of set a common path that beginners can take to get to that point? So I like the Neo soul/R&B and Blues sounds. But how do I reach the end goal?
Tomo emphasizes knowing the degrees and melody vs learning a bunch of riffs and patterns (as I understand it). Thus, I'm thinking:
1) learn the notes and degrees of one scale in one key. Learn this by moving through the scale on the 1st string alone. Then include the 2nd, then 3rd, and so on.
2) Once I'm proficient at moving through the scale, use a backing track (I don't have a loop station- use my phone maybe?), and then focus on making melodic lines and watching my phrasing.
3) Keep learning triad and start learning arpeggios and include somehow. I'm not clear on how but that's due to me not having watched Tomo's arpeggio lessons yet. And right now I'm still busy getting proficient at the major triads.
So yeah, that's where I'm at now. I'm hungry to learn and wanna be patient about doing this right.
