Tomo Fujita Guitar Wisdom

So, I decided to have a go on the lessons and acquired the book some time ago. I just watched SR08 lesson and decided to share my sight reading journey this far.

Haven't really tried to read any songs outside this material yet, but I feel quite confident with 1st position of C major. It's a great feeling to see a note or triad on a sheet and effortlessly find it on the instrument. Another takeaway is that I've started to care a lot is muting every string I'm not playing. Sometimes the process feels like uphill battle, but don't expect too fast and be kind to yourself hey.

As Tomo keeps pointing out, this series is not only about learning to read notes, but also about discipline. Somehow I find working on this material extremely rewarding. Every morning, for the past few months, I jump out of bed and start practicing. It's a great feeling I wanted to share. :)

I've been enjoying Tomo's guitar Dojo and working through the book. Some lessons take a week for me to wrap my fingers around. I had to take a couple months off during my wifes 40 days in hospital and brain surgeries, but starting to work on it again. I am now on Here We Go Again duet. I bought a Saramonic Smartrig II to plug into my mac, and can record the 1st guitar on garageband, then play the the second part over it. It takes me many takes, but I remind myself as Tomo says to go slow, enjoy, don't judge.

Ive had Bill Leavitt's books around for years trying to learn myself. As the pages in the book began to yellow and my waist line began to get bigger, Sea to Sea duet became like wilted flowers in a dusty room that I would keep coming back to but never got any life out of. Sea to Sea became my nemesis and the metaphor for my learning. Now with Tomo, thankfully I found the right teacher to get me through this book and I am so grateful. I am now well past Sea to Sea and the book is now alive again, and the flowers are growing in my mind. Im now working on the 1st and 2nd solos. The discipline of reading now transcends through all my playing, even my noodling sounds better. I couldnt be happier with guitar wisdom. Thanks Tomo!!!
