Yesterday in three hours play, four of the high E strings snapped all of them on the 11th fret, it is very inconvenient. The bounds are in fair conditions and I'm using D'Addario 009 gauge strings. Could it be a bad batch of the strings or I might need to move up gauge? I would appreciate any expert opinion, Thank you in advance!
High E string frequent snaps on the same position
09's are best for Tele or strat style guitars most Jazz guitars start at 10. With that i would have the frets cheked shouldn't be breaking like that unless you are bending strings alot!
Unless your bending strings like a madman I would first check your bridge saddles to make sure there isn’t a rough edge where the string leaves the saddle - often a cause of string breaks Hope you get it sorted
Thank you for the help both of you, I'll book it in for a professional check up then. It is a Yamaha Pacifica 510V, very good guitar for my level but after I read your comments it does not suitable for crazy bends, playing "The thrill is gone" on loop for an hour.. I'll look out for a Strat or Tele for sure. Thanks again!
Hi again. I’m sure a good tech will be able find the problem pretty quickly. The Pacifica should be fine even for crazy bends! You can never have too many guitars though :)
Hope you get it fixed ok
I'm glad to hear that the Pacifica is not the problem as I found it very smooth to play and sound and look great, except the fretboard is a bit flat but I'm learning on the go.Thanks and fun playing!
Here is Tomo's comment:
"For most electric guitars, I highly recommend a regular string gauge:10-46. I use D’Addario EXL110 or NYXL"
Thank you very much for this advice,.For the recommendation of the luthier we set up the Pacifica with 11 gauge set and it sounds dull compare to the 9 gauge, also very hard to play. Yesterday my Squier Tele was set up with 10 gauge and it is perfect, totally agree with you on this. Thank you for your time for your helping comment! 🙏🎶🎸
