Hi! I really love Tomo's approach to music. I just wish there was a whole section dedicated to learning songs: how to choose a song to learn; how to learn it properly etc etc..., since we all listen to a lot of music but we also want to play it and learn it in the best way possible.
Peace, Love u Tomo :)
Yes, marty music
I had a difficult time with this a couple years ago when I started.
I started taking lessons from a well known guitar player in my community.
When I asked him which songs to learn first, he said 'You don't want to know.'
When I pressed him for more details, he said 'The simplest and best songs to get started with are the old, simple country songs.'
Well, he was right. I've never been a fan of country music. But I decided it was simply a social stigma thing, so I decided to follow his advice.
I bought a Hank Williams Songbook and started with the first song. 14 bars of the same chord, a single bar of the fifth chord, and finishing with the first chord. So simple, so easy. 16 bars repeated four times over.
Honky Tonkin' by Hank Williams was the first song I could play.
Was I proud of it? No. I've never played it for family or friends. But, it was a great place to start!
I hope this helps.
Peace, Love and Understanding

Here is Tomo's comment:
"Thanks so much for subscribing to my Guitar Wisdom. What if you could transcribe (learn) any song that you come across on YouTube or Spotify? Would that be good? Well, please focus on your musical foundation, theory, ear training, triads, strumming technique, and so on. Eventually, you will be able to learn any song by ear!
"We have just started work on a new Guitar Wisdom lesson series on learning/analyzing Jazz Standards. This new series may help to change your approach to learning songs!"
