Hi, I just finished B12 and was a little confused over relative major/minor chords and how you know what is a certain chords relative major/minor?
Instead of making another post I'd also like to add I'm a little confused on the B13 Following chords with triads :( It says to go watch the triads video if you're confused but I don't want to stray off the guided path if that may lead me down a rabbit hole too early
No, the keys are the ones that have relatives.
When you have a scale you have the notes from those 7 notes of each scale you can pick different roots and from them take a new scale for example you have c major (C,D,E,F,G,A,B) if you start your scale from C and play the previous notes is C Ionian or Major if you start from D(or choose D as the root) and play the same notes in your scale now is a Dorian mode
All depends from having the same notes and where do you begin if is again c major the 6th grade (A) is an Aeolian mode or well known as the minor mode
To know a relative is just having a different root in the same notes of a scale and start there an much easy the 6th grade of a major scale is alway the relative minor and the third grade of a minor scale is major
I hope it’s useful and sorry if my English wasn’t good
I appreciate this a lot!
A quick way to learn this is to think that if you're in a major key - then the relative minor is just 3 frets below ( on the same string ) your root note.
So for C Major - the relative minor is A min
and or G major the relative minor is E min
and for A major the relative minor is Fsharp min
etc
Here is Tomo's comment:
"This is simple, once you understand it. Key of C Major / A minor. Key of G Major / E minor. The sixth degree of a Major scale is the Root of its relative minor scale. So, you can think of it as I Major and vi minor."
