Avoid watching YouTube videos related to the exercises until after you have figured out how to play each passage. If you have heard the exercise, then you will be playing from musical/auditory memory rather than reading the notes.
There are apps that will give a set of notes for you to read and play, some with note recognition that will check your playing.
Take it slow... there is no rush.
Thank you Michael! I will definitely take my time! I agree I do not want to end up memorizing the exercises! I am definitely enjoying the learning and working with a metronome! It would be so awesome to do basic guitar sight reading! If anyone else is starting out, I'd recommend to buy the paperback version not the Kindle version. I have the basic Kindle and it wasn't compatible. I used my phone app and the measures are big which don't fit on my screen. Paperback is $5 more but worth it!
Let's keep practicing! =)
Here is Tomo's comment:
"Thanks so much for subscribing to my Guitar Wisdom. Use a music stand, and make sure your posture is good! Dive in and have some fun!"
Awesome! Thank you Mr. Mattingly for sharing! And thank you Mr. Fujita for your thoughts! I saw more lessons were added to Sight Reading! Yay!
Hi fellow students, as you're reading a chord, like in Exercise. 8, are you reading from low note to high note? Or high note to low note?
Low to high, as in a down stroke. You'd only play high to low if it was indicated for you to play an upstroke.
Thank you Micah! =) I'm finishing up the Sharps and Flats section!
