hey tomo & fellow guitarists, i enjoyed the foundation test to help me see where some holes in my playing might be, as well as shift from practicing to applying what i learn in my practice to a musical context.
i was looking up "bass" and "c shuffle" in the "search" section to see if i could find the c shuffle bass line tomo did in the qap04 foundation test level 2 around 16:09, but didn't come across anything about it. (https://tomovhxtv.vhx.tv/videos/qap04-foundation-test-level-2)
learning the bass line is pretty simple, but i have some trouble understanding how you throw in those fills in between the bass lines.
here's what i could pick up:
- you used the triads of each chord in the shuffle (c, f, g)
- mixed in some blues phrasing in there
so knowing what notes sound good to play with the dominant 7th chords, learning some blues phrasing (or listening to more blues phrasing), getting better at triads, and knowing the blues shuffle structure so i don't get lost.
i still find it hard to break down the fills to the fundamentals and would love if you could show that in more detail.
i'd love to know if there was anything else i could practice to better understand the fills, or tomo - maybe a video about how you typically come up with fills? if there's any other explanations for it beyond borrowing from great blues players :)
thanks in advance for all your help.
