Does Tomo have a video about changing positions in the middle of the scale? I can play my major, pentatonic and blues scales in the 5 positions of the CAGED system but am struggling to keep them all in my head as I change positions. Some pre-made drills would be very helpful.
Here is Tomo's comment:
Try this: Start with A minor pentatonic (A C D E G) = (R b3 4 5 b7). Play two notes on each string. Start with the Root (A), 5th fret on the 6th string.
A C
D E
G A
C D
E G
A C
Then, start on the 6th string with the next note, C (8th fret / 6th string):
C D
E G
A C
D E
G A
C D
Next, from D (10th fret / 6th string):
D E
G A
C D
E G
A C
D E
Then, from E (12th fret / 6th string):
E G
A C
D E
G A
C D
E G
And, from G (b7) (3rd fret / 6th string):
G A
C D
D E
E G
A C
G A
Thanks so much! Not sure if the last one is a typo because it follows a different pattern than the rest, but if I change positions where the notes are repeating on that one, it's exactly the kind of thing I'm looking for! The others present a good way of thinking about it, too, sticking to one scale shape and moving it up the fretboard from one position to the next. Thank you, and thanks to Tomo!
