Hi everyone,
I've gone through the fretboard and major scale lessons which said to play the C major scale one string at a time and then gradually play several strings at a time. I have done this and I feel more comfortable now jumping around the fretboard while improvising in C. I have a few questions going forward that I hope can guide me in the right direction.
Firstly, do I now do the same exercise in every other key? When playing in keys other than C, do I have to know the name of each note? I find that it is hard to know the names of the accidentals compared to C which are all natural notes. In my head I'm only sing the relative pitches ie do re mi fa so la ti do, and tend to revert back to shapes because I can't call out the notes in time. Is this okay?
Secondly, what do you guys think of when moving around the fretboard? Do you have a reference note and work your way from there? For example, when I play say in the key of G and I want to move up the fretboard, I try to find the root note higher up the fretboard and figure from there. Is this how it is done?
Sorry if the questions are long, just want to make sure I'm not wasting my time.
I look forward to your replies.

"Thanks so much for subscribing to my Guitar Wisdom. Yes, you can do the same thing in different keys. And don't worry about anything!
"Try a few different keys: F, Bb, G, D
F = Flat on Bb
Bb = Flats on Bb & Eb
G = Sharp on F#
D = Sharps on F# & C#
"Do Re Mi Fa So La Ti Do
1/2 step between M3 & 4th… and M7 & R.
"More improvisation lessons will be coming to Guitar Wisdom."
