over the A7, I heard two cool new tricks that I had not heard before at 12:12 to 12:14
1. reverse b9 trick
this blew my mind
the slide into the flat 9 from the root note makes it sound extra cool. the overall direction is down but it does a stair-step thing.
2. slide into flat 9 from root, then play root one octave higher, down to b7
slide into M3 then play #9 then b9
these two licks are the coolest things I've ever heard
My ear was getting tired of my constant abuse of the full 4 note dim7 runs (i..e, the b9 trick) on every dominant seventh chords. Now I have some new material!
thanks Tomo!
