Hello I hope you are having a great day! I have been subscribed to guitar wisdom for over a year and looking through theory 1 and foundation and technique 1 inconsistently. Personally I found it a bit difficult to remain consistent as I am quite impatient when it comes to theory. Furthermore, I felt like what I was doing seemed dry and I didn't know how to have fun with it. Instead of just practicing the foundation and techniques is it possible to learn theory efficiently through learning how to play my favorite songs? I think I will be more motivated and happy while playing.
Hi Tommy, what theory are you talking about? In general, my opinion is: Be creative, create your own exercises that match your interest. For example: you don't want to find triads for the I - IV - V progression, then you can find it by doing your favorite song's progression, and remember the criterias of that theory: clean sound, knowing the notes of the triad. After all, it will still annoy you, but that will bring you out of your comfort for better. Please remember, everytime you feel uncomfortable, it means you're becoming better. I've practiced guitar for 10 years by myself, and trust me, nothing hold you back more than avoiding uncomfortable exercises and keep playing what you already know.
Good luck and enjoy the journey.
