When I work with the "Crazy Chromatic" fingering exercise, do I want to use my second finger for the second string? At first, it felt like it was more comfortable to use my third, but I expect I might want to train myself to use my second. I couldn't quite tell from the video, but it appears that Tomo is using his second. Just want to make sure I'm training properly. Also, are there some general rules for finger assignments for each string when finger-picking? Thanks!
Hello again,
I did not see a reply to my question so I thought it might be confusing and thought I'd try to re-phrase it. When I practice the :"crazy chromatic" exercise, I use the thumb and first finger for the pick. Do I want to get in the habit of only using my second finger to play the other string or is it insignificant in this case? I am trying to avoid a potential bad habit if there is one regarding fingering. Thanks,
Here is Tomo's comment:
"Thanks so much for subscribing to my Guitar Wisdom. It is better to use your 2nd finger. How about this: don’t expect to progress too fast! It will take some time for you to settle in. So, please practice this super slowly every day for two weeks. You will see improvement after two weeks!"
Thanks very much for your reply, Tomo! That's exactly the advice I needed. i thought I should be using my 2nd finger, so that's what I will practice. And I definitely don't expect too fast - that is not my goal. I can already feel how much the chromatic exercises are helping me and I am excited about spending time with the "crazy chromatics". These are great exercises and thanks so much for sharing them. Sure, I'll commit at least two weeks to practicing them! I do appreciate the advice. All the best and don't worry, because this is so much fun that I hope it will be a life-long process, always with something new to learn.
