Anyone able to explain the theory behind the chord progression?
Em9 - E7 - Cmaj7 - B7(b13)
What key are we in and how do we understand this diatonically if at all.
My nashville number system trained mind can't quite grasp it.

Hi! Why would E7 be V7/VI?
I understand E7 to be spelled E - G# - B - D
And V7/VI of E minor would be B7/C spelled B - D# - F# - A - C.
These notes are not the same?

V7/VI of E minor is read as the V7 chord of the VI chord. The VI of E minor is A. The V7 of A is E7.
Slash chord nomenclature is used to denote a chord with a non-root bass note such as C/E, or E7/G#.
In harmonic analysis we often see functional descriptions like V7/II. This is read as the V7 chord of the II chord not as the V7 chord with a II as the bass note. The two writing styles are similar and at first are a bit confusing. I hope this helps.
