Tomo Fujita Guitar Wisdom

I'm looking for how to count the strumming pattern. Tomo describes strumming for the introduction chords as 16th notes. If I try to count it out for verses, it has to be something like this for 16 notes:

DUDU DUDU DUDU DUDU - pick direction
1e&a 2e&a 3e&a 4e&a

But it seems more like triplets?

Below isn't the correct patter, but there are also muted strums, perhaps it could be shown like

DUDU DUDU DUDU DUDU
x x x x - indicates muted
1e&a 2e&a 3e&a 4e&a

If anyone who has learned this song could write out the actual strumming pattern they used, I'd really appreciate it.

Around the 8 minute mark Tomo slows it down quite a bit and goes through the whole progression. I just try to copy whatever he's doing to get the general feeling.

You can use the gear icon on the video toolbar and play back at a slower speed. Then you can see his down/up motions in slow motion and just write them out if you need it for a reference to come back to later.

The feeling I get is that those first two eight-notes for beat one and the staccato accent on beat two really drive the groove forward and you can do a lot of variations on the second 2 beats. Those stuttery triplets he does are too advanced for me right now so I don't do them.

Meanwhile, I found a youTube lesson from Tomo:

At around 1:40 he is showing a book he wrote with a song called Mountain River Valley,
and it has very similar chords. Bottom of the page has One bar of A-7 followed by a bar of G-7 and C7. He has transcribed the the strumming. It's still quite complicated.

Hopefully Tomo might break it down.

I found another video of his and attempted to write out the up/down patterns in a soundslice clip. I don't think I have the actual note durations right though. You're right, it really is quite complicated!
