I found this lesson after Brad Ekr posed the question about "8 Bar Blues". The lesson here is quite well constructed:
There area actually several slightly different solo examples in this lesson. And I just noticed that the solo example starting at around :41, for the third bar D chord, seems to be using an A minor pentatonic lick. The notes used are all chord tones for the D major chord. Is this something typical, one could do for the IV chord?
Hi John. I just saw your post and the first thing I did was play on 3rd fret-(bar chord) D maj. (still on 3rd fret) played [a]minor bar chord and it sounds good to me. Then, I signed in to reply- saw the video you’re referring to and thought before I give you a confident “Yes, it can be done” I should watch the video. Music is a language played from our heart & soul & unless your playing with a band you can put together any chords you like & solo notes however you want. That’s my words of wisdom. I’ll go watch the video now. Hope I helped.🎸Peace & Harmony, Suzanne-aka: Bflatblueswoman
Okay, now I understand your question. My answer is still yes. 🎸
