Hi!
I've been digging this video for a while now and still not sure about the "you have to learn how to resolve each chord in the major scale" :
It could be interresting to have a video by Tomo explaining this in details.
Thanks :-)
Hi!
I've been digging this video for a while now and still not sure about the "you have to learn how to resolve each chord in the major scale" :
From the context of the Wooten video, the idea of "resolving" seems to be cycling through the circle of fourths, similar to 1625 or 36251 progressions. If you cycle through non-stop in either direction you eventually go through all 12 chromatic chords and wind up back at the beginning.
Guitar wisdom covers the whole C scale its harmonized major scale chords and and diatonic triads and 7th chords in great detail.
However - the circle of 4ths and 5ths and its potential uses for modulations and resolutions does not seem to appear as its own topic... it is pretty well covered by the lessons on jazz blues progressions, secondary dominants (II-Vs of other chords), and the rhythm changes demo on Anthropology. But it seems important enough for its own topic.
So I agree, a lesson series to break down the Circle of 4/5s might be useful to help us understand the familiar chord patterns we see in so many songs. Also, I think it would be good to understand when to use the diatonic fourths to stay in one key, instead of using Perfect 4ths to cycle to a different key.
You are way more advanced than I am, I'd be happy if Tomo reads your comment and provides more info. Anyway, I'll go back through all the lessons you advised. Thanks
