I am always asked to play Happy Birthday on guitar and also Christmas songs during the holidays. Can you post some east arrangements of how to do that so people can sing along?
Thanks Tomo - You Rock!
I like this idea. But I think a lot of the concepts and ideas for creating arrangements for solo playing are already embodied in the current collection of GW lessons, both in the beginner's sections and in deep dives into genres and representative songs and forms. The challenge for all students is to apply this knowledge to songs they are interested in.
What may be more interesting would be to create challenges to the greater GW community to create their own arrangements for specific songs or melodies. Or maybe a VLOG series of how Tomo works out an "Arrangement for Solo Guitar" for a well-known song.
But, yeah, you could make a case for, say, Greensleeves for Christmas, Auld Lang Syne for the New Year, Danny Boy for St. Patrick's or whatever. I think some of these might not appeal to a large and diverse international audience though. But, hey, "The Beatles" would be great. I already watch everything I can about The Beatles and a "3 Levels" treatment by Tomo on Youtube would be a great supplement to lesson work. (if there's no copyright issue!)
Below is an ad-hoc lesson on Happy Birthday that I transcribed from a video by one of my favorite guitar players. I just transcribed the chord fingerings, not the song; the performance of the song is buried elsewhere in the video and is worth watching all the way through.
Here is Tomo's comment, which was delayed due to some email difficulties:
"Thanks so much for subscribing to my Guitar Wisdom. We will think about your suggestion."
