Hi everyone!
I have a question about transcribing: when learning a melody, is it useful to think about the notes you’re playing in relation to the parent key instead of the chord you’re currently playing over? An example of this would be thinking “this note is the third of the parent scale” versus “this note is the major 7th of the IV”.
I ask because most of my musical background comes from singing in choirs where you’d learn your part through solfège, all in relation to the parent key. It’s a very intuitive way of learning a song, but I question the purpose that this sort of thinking serves for the guitar where you’re playing with chord changes in mind.
Thank you!!
Thank you so much for sharing!
I think I should demonstrate about how to do proper way.
1) Listen that song over and over. So you can hear that song, melody, chords, solo in your heard.
2) Generally I learn chord progression of that song.
3) So you know that song chord progression.
4) You analyze any notes with chord on that moment. I don't think scales that much.
Maybe you can share a little more about song that you are thinking about?
How about this blues etude?
