Tomo Fujita Guitar Wisdom

Hey guys,

I’ve been subscribing to guitar wisdom for quite some time now, following the Berkelee book as well as focusing on triads and arpeggios, I even took a break from Tomo’s chord series and studied the arpeggio book by Mimi Fox (good book) because I felt I really needed to hone in on it more before I continue. But now I feel like I know all these arpeggios, but never can make music out of it, as the title says, there are too many tools in the shed that I got no projects to work on, does anybody here feel the same way? If so, can you share how you break out of it?

I would just put on a fun backing track and jam away. That way you see how much of your tools you have at your disposal in the heat of the moment. I have found that it’s one thing learning the tools but another thing having them available without thinking. Shorter version: play something fun or play along with a favorite song.

I do the same thing, put a fun backing track and use what I've been studying with musically.
There's another important thing that maybe can be useful, I have one book that the subject is rhythmic, just that.
Study rhythmic changed my way to listen and play music!!

What I do with the knowledge I get is to use it in a practical situation :D

I'm learning triads, so when I learn a few of them, I put them in practice in either a backing track or a song that I like and start changing according to the chord progression.
If a song has a different chord progression, I apply the knowledge I have in order to look for them in my instrument.

I have the same issue. I’m currently grinding through the 7th chords and their inversions. At this point I am feeling like I know a lot of theory but it’s not available to me without thinking hard and stopping the flow.

Especially now it’s adding the 7th there’s more inversions like there are 4 inversions now. And Inneed to keep track of 4 notes in the chord now and know their relationship. I also feel like this makes it harder to visualize the underlying scale of the chord ?

I don’t currently understand how to relate things with degree. Is the degree with respect to the major scale of that key ? Or of the notes of the major scale of that chord ? How do I start thinking in degrees, and how can a chord be a degree ?
