Hi,
I am new here. I have been following Tomo Fujita-san for a long while on youtube and this time decided I want to learn more seriously. I have played guitar on and off for years now but I am still some sort of a beginner. Here are some things that I know already:
- Intervals. I learnt intervals some times ago and use that to train my ear and try to transcribe the melodies that I like. Whenever I practice, I try to sing along the melodies and try to find the suitable intervals.
- Chords and triads. Since I know intervals, I can build chords and triads basically wherever I want with either the root or the 5th note.
- Major and minor scales. I know their structures so I can get the scales wherever I want. But I do not know the actual notes, I know their degrees and their supposed position in relative with the root note. Is that a hack?
My goals are:
- To be able to play a melody from a chord progression. At the moment, I cannot improvise.
- To not rely on any kind of box, shape, CAGE.
- To develop my ear more.
I would like to ask, what series would Tomo Fujita-san recommend? I am currently following the sight reading and it's refreshing. But I want to know some series that can help me with my goals so I can follow them at the same time.
Thank you.
Thank you so much for sharing!
1) So you know intervals. Just in case, please check some scale lessons on Theory section.
2) Chords you should not build by yourself! Learn more foundation chords. Triad inversions & 7th chords.
3) For scale, Major and minor scales. You need to know: a) Name of notes b) Know Do Re Mi... c) Intervals (M3 or b7 etc)
To your goals, do not skip anything seems easy or please don't assume you already know things... you don't know exactly how deep you know on each topics.
If you have a solid foundation then you can learn any song's chord progressions & melody! So if you find any great song on YouTube then you can learn any songs!
Great goals! Learn more one string approach on scales so you can play Major scale or minor scale or Harmonic minor ... need to know degrees on any scales. This way you know the sounds and know each intervals so you are working on your ear training too.
Good job! Sight-reading section is so good!
