First and foremost I would like to thank Fujita Sensei for Guitar Wisdom. I have been trying to learn guitar on and off for a long time and hitting road blocks with teachers focused on songs and not being able to answer my why questions involving theory. They either did not know or just glazed over it and threw some scales at me.
In just 9 days I made more progress then in 4 months with my current teacher. A huge thank you again I know have a path getting me where I want to go.
Now onto video B7, the video is great the songwriting chords presented are beautiful. I feel however that their is a missed opportunity to mention or direct to a video that explains what a suspended chord or minor 7 chord is. I really had to put on my thinking hat and analyze the intervals of E Major, C Major did not get to D major yet scales to realize in Csus2 we are removing M3 and adding M2 and with E-7 we are adding b7 and a b3. Dsus4 is removing M3 and adding perfect 4th. Maybe this was intentionally left this way to force this thought? On the bright side I was able to teach myself E Major scale just by using my ear which is the most amazing feeling I never thought I would be able to do.
I feel great accomplishment in learning these things and can't wait to start working on triads soon.
I have found that the way of thinking you presented here is precisely how one wants to understand guitar. Everything is given by numbers/scale degrees. And learning by youself on the guitar directly how through modifying scale degrees you get different scales and chords is much better than someone just giving you the shape/diagram with black dots or a tab. If, on top of that, you are able to internalize the sound of what you get by doing this (this part is my weak spot) you are really on a great path. I belive putting on a thinking hat like you did can take one very far with understanding guitar. Great stuff.
