Hi,
To start I want to say how much I appreciate the lessons on Guitar Wisdom! I think they are well thought out, progress in a logical way, and combine technique, rhythm and theory.

Now my question is; When playing the A shape C and D triads on the 2-3-4 strings, are you muting the 5-6 strings with your 2nd finger or selectively picking the strings?

If you move between strumming and fingerpicking, the muting techniques are slightly different. It is important to learn the difference, not by words but by practice and feel -- learn which strings are ringing and what you can do to mute them.

"So, try these: (1) Practice with fingerpicking until you can play each chord without any noise; (2) Lightly strum the chords and use left-hand muting; (3) Be aware of your left-hand thumb position, because the correct thumb position will help you to avoid unwanted noise; (4) Practice R 3 7 Swing Groove technique, Blues, Jazz Blues and a few Jazz Standards; and (5) Be creative when you practice!"
