Hi Tomo. In this video, what are you looking at as you go through the triad positions? https://tomovhxtv.vhx.tv/videos/ftr-01-triads-on-strings-5-4-3-and-learning-the-fretboard The reason I'm asking is I don't know where all the notes are on the fretboard and can call them instantaneously as I have to count or do my C major scale (whole step, whole step, half step, etc). Is that what you expect me to do be doing to learn this lesson or should I load up a fretboard chart with all the notes to show me?
Thanks,
Gary
Try playing triad on 5th string for a while. So scale degrees 1 3 5 1 on that one string to get used to lowest note position maybe. Then you try 3 5 1 3 on 4th string maybe. Then 5 1 3 5 on 3rd. Slowly and thinking about scale degree. Then start seeing connection 1 and 3 on strings 5 and 4, then 3 and 5 on strings 5 and 4...Then full triad after that. No need to rush. Try and figure out without paper. Or write down all C E G as 1 3 5 on the neck diagram. Then play but say out loud 1 3 5, 3 5 1, 5 1 3 as you find them if it will help. Over time it should stick to mind. Later, for other triads same principle and degree relations, only the 1 3 5 are then different notes. Hope it helps a little.
Thank you so much for sharing!
No problems! I think your case, you want to learn C Major scale on each string.
All you need is your first finger and learn name of notes & intervals & Do Re Mi.
C D E F G A B C
R M2 M3 P4 P5 M6 M7 R(Octave)
Do Re Mi Fa So La Ti Do

No charts!
Avoid any visual aids so that you will learn & be familiar with things super slowly!
Most smart people wants everything pretty fast!
That's not the best way learning guitar playing.
Okay?
Learn C Major scale on every string.
Just need to start any notes of C Major scale.
Then when you learn any triads... makes easy.
Best not memorize any shapes!
That's easy and that will you stuck in same place for a long time.
Maybe be this one is a little easier for you?

Thank you for sharing!
ok thanks so much guys. I'm such a visual learner that this makes it very hard for me! Very tempting to visualize fretboards I've studied with other teachers. :) I really appreciate the help!
You're very welcome! Thanks to Silvije Domazet!
Yes! Many people are visual learners and I help these people to discover learning more sounds & theory & ear training together.
So I just don'r expect too fast! Super slowly to digest this topic!
Good job Gary!
