I had been enjoying the Basic Funk course, but I got to the fast triplet lesson and realized I'm over my head. I don't have a clear understanding of triplets. Are they a 4/4 bar divided evenly three ways? I'm thinking of changing gears and starting with the Music Theory 1 course, but I would also be interested in an explanation of triplets.
3 evenly spaced notes during the time a quarter note would last.
Count as tri-po-la, tri-po-la,tri-po-la,tri-po-la, if picking single notes you would do something like DUD, UDU, DUD, UDU. You play tri on the click, then po then la evenly spaced so that next tri falls on the next click.
That is as best as I can do with words :) So quarter notes 1 2 3 4, eight notes 1 & 2 & 3 & 4 &, triplets 1 & ah, 2 & ah, 3 & ah, 4 & ah or tri-po-la, tri-po-la, tri-po-la,tri-po-la. Those would be quarter note triplets. You could do eight note triplets where each eight note would be played as three notes etc.
Thank you so much for sharing!
I still practice my rhythm guitar foundation with R 3 7 swing.
This technique is so important and we all must know it how to practice correctly.
Once you have this technique then you can do more rhythmic thing.

Just in case you can check your time feel with this lesson.
Make sure you can accent or control your 16th notes & 16th feel.

Then you can definitely challenge my fast triplet.

You are helping others! Good job!
Definitely work on Music Theory courses. The way Tomo teaches it with scale degrees awareness should open up the guitar fretboard for you and that is the most valuable thing that can happen to your guitar playing. Unlike popular belief guitar is in many ways an instrument suitable for learning music theory concepts when viewed the right way. I dare say many parts of basic (and not so basic) music theory can be taught directly on guitar. No need to start with a piano as is often done and makes many people shy away from it. So use the opportunity to learn theory on the guitar itself following Tomo's lectures.
.Silvije, thank you, your explanation is very helpful. I will try using a metronome and count them out.
Tomo, thanks for the feedback. I have watched the R 3 7 swing, and the 16th note tapping videos but I probably could use more practice. I will go back and revisit those lessons, before trying the triplet videos again.
