so I have a fender Strat. one of the "good ones". Ill be honest I love high out put hum buckers. can't help it. I hear a Strat and think that sounds good then I hear some good hum buckers and immediately change my mind. I have a jb bridge pick up I really like that I replaced my epi probucker with then switched it back because It likes gain better. I'm not in love with the neck but on the Strat. but I have not touched it since I purchased my les Pauls 1 yr 1/2 ago. Should I even bother going through all that? I still have to file the nut and the floating trem bridge was a pain. I see so many great guitarist play them. There has to be something to them. Someone told me to leave as much stock as possible? It was a hand me down/gift so its not going anywhere.I'm not purchasing anymore guitars but when I get back to work I need a decent amp. I have a vintage Marshall ss that sounds amazing when it works. super nice chimey clean channel. Anyway what am I missing?
Thank you so much for sharing this topic!
My opinion on guitars. Leave it as it is. If a price less than $1000... even you change those pickups... not a huge improvement.
But you can adjust the pickup height with care... that alone can change the tone so much.
For floating bridge, depends on personal taste. For stay in tune purpose, i set the bridge flat to the guitar body, but if I bend a whole sten & a 1/2 step... the low E pitch will go slightly lower. That's the best set up for the tone.
If you set up your Les Paul with much better string height & pickup height... it will change a big time!
Thank you.

How does one go about setting the pickup height? I know about the screws, I mean what does moving the pickup closer or farther from the strings do to the tone/volume?
You can watch this video for reference.
I set 2-3mm bass side (6th string) lower than higher strings. (1st string side)
If it's goos set up then the note sustain for a days!
If it's too close to the strings.. then bubbly tone.
