I struggle with playing faster while maintaining a smooth continuous feel to the notes. I get a more staccato feel when I try to play faster. My right hand seems to take too long going from stroke to stroke and I also get the feeling that the pick stays on the string too long, leaving that little pause that makes the phrase feel too staccato. I'm sure my left hand is an issue too in that it's not fast enough or sufficiently precisely timed to make each note clear but not separate.
I see that Tomo uses a very loose hold on the pick. That has seemed to help me a bit with speed and fluency. I feel like my right hand moves up and down as it picks each note and I'm sure that is slowing me down as well.
What I'm wondering is if someone can describe the little details of technique that make up good smooth faster playing.
