Been working on the major scales videos I understand them pretty good now but confused about modes what is their purpose
Please watch 7 scales first so you know those differences.

Thank you for subscribing Guitar Wisdom.
Thanks for sharing.
Major scale is really important part of music. Melody & chords.
So it's a foundation for learning fretboard harmony and melodic intervals and more.
Hope this will help.
Thank you.

I'm sorry I think I worded that wrong I was wondering what the function of modes is
I don't have a good grasp of modes yet myself as I'm only working on the Aeolian (Natural Minor Scale) and the Ionian (Major Scale), however, I think one of the functions of modes is an expressive one. For example, songs that use the major scale often are called happy while minor scales are thought of as sad. In addition, I know the other modes have a relationship that is closer to the major or minor scales and their tonality. Furthermore, search online for songs that are done in certain modes and you might be able to get the feel of them. For example, I love the phrygian mode as it often has the exotic feel and has the middle eastern sound you might of heard before. I'm no expert but I think this is some of the ways you can think of modes.
No problems.
I need to make more videos if you are looking for applying scales to chord changes.,
Thank you.

Hope you do. Would love to see more of those. This is a great subject to learn. And it seems to always be the question of whether one focuses on one scale to cover the whole progression thinking in modes of the parent scale for each chord or following chords by switching keys. And on top of that we have modal progressions by themselves calling for a ceartain sound altogether. Of course it also depends on the style and how fast the chords are moving by but every video you can make in that direction will surely help open some perspectives on the subject.
Thank you that is very helpful!
