Hi Tomo, hope all is well.
I have been practicing my C major scale like you suggested, i am practicing switching from c major to c dorian whilst singing the intervals and noticing the half steps on every string and it feels really helpful.
My question was should i also be focusing on the note names as well as the solfege and sounds. At the moment when i play this i only sing the solfege should i perhaps swap and sing the note names instead, as i struggle to remember the name of each note and its position within the scale.
One other questions regards practicing and learning the pentatonic scale properly. when i watched your major pentatonic video i was alittle confused on how to apply your teachings to my practice.
what i gathered is that it is better to learn phrases/riifs/licks in 5 positions and learn each of their intervals rather than the shape and practice the scales on one string like all recommend for all the other scales. Is this ok?
Thank you so much for reading i love your lessons!
If you learn those 5 shapes, please learn one octave each or less notes.
Definitely you want to think about all intervals! That's why you need to learn pentatonic scale on One String.
Learn a few melodies.
1) C Jam Blues by Count Basie
2) Bag's Groove by Milt Jackson
3) Back at the Chicken Shack by Jimmy Smith
4) Amazing Grace in key of E (Play only 2nd string!)
5) Blue Monk
6) Bessie Blues
7) Straight No Chaser
Thank you!
Tomo
