Hi professor Tomo and forum.
I have improved so much learning in guitar wisdom my rhythm , timing ,technique and music knowledge had skyrocket!.
Problems:
1) I can't mute so effectively the e string on the R m3 7 shell chord so i realise that i had make regular to.try to don't hit the e on the down strum is that should I try to change that or is kind of OK us a technique if I try to much to mute the e the d string don't sound so clean!
2) I can play the chromatic scale without noise in my electric guitar but in the acoustic backwards my index make a bit of noise when i lift him to change position! I only ask because i make 7 months straight the chromatic scale!
3)I have improved my fretboard knowledge and learned the shapes of triads and location of notes (I am good but not great!) But i sadly believe that i miss this connection of ear and knowledge! I have improved my ear a bit with using the 1 string approach scale and find melodies but i can't recognise the degrees imidiately without hamming and searching and from there i find the rest of the melodies the vocal melodies usually is not very hard because there is not so big intervals!. (I can't hear clearly the base in songs and recognise the intervals and find the progression!) I know that you have alot of tips like the "learn the fretboard without memorization on the technique section and i will try hard to give it time every day from now on i didn't do it so much because is boring and tyring but what is the end goal should I be able to recognise the degrees from this! Without a Cmajor behind how i will know how a M3 for example sounds like! Should i must know how a C note for example is sound! ( because with different chord behind has different sound! But some people can tune their guitar with ear so they know the sound of note also! Sorry for all this confusion and answer of the result! i will try this and also this YouTube lesson do 4 things for ear training and hope for the best!
Thank you for sharing! Good job! So happy to hear that!
1) In order to mute well while you are practicing R 3 7 Swing groove.
- Guitar setting.. set your string height a little higher ... 2.00mm at the 12th fret
- Amp setting... a little louder, more table and less bass. Think reverb is never exist!
- Only play 6th string root.. only 5th string root...
- Play it super slow!
- Move your right hand as wide as you can!
- Make sure pick all the notes.
- Record yourself and think deeply!
2) Chromatic scale on acoustic guitar'
- Focus on using less pressure on left hand
- Do not use same tempo as electric guitar. It's different instrument!
- Practice 5th fret to 9th fret on only 4th string.
- Going back... should play slower than going up!
- Do not use a metronome! Tempo is not important at all!
- Play this super slow! Insanely slow but each note sustain a lot!
- Record yourself, listen them back, take your notes!
3) Fretboard knowledges
- Learn C Major scale with only use first finger.... from bottom to up... up to bottom.. super slow!
- Think about name of notes (C D E) and sing (Do Re Mi) and think (R M2 M3) etc.
- Learn all C triad inversions but think above than shapes
- Do not touch notes until you can hear each pitches!
- Focus more ear training,.
- Do not write any shapes down!
- Do not rush at all! Super insanely slow and no noises!
Hope these points are helpful!
When I teach in private lessons, I go over things super deeply with insanely slow!
Thank you!
Your post will help others!
